Spam call? your computer is infected with a virus

I just received a phone call from a woman who identified herself as Dell Support. She said that my computer was infected with a virus. I hung up on the caller. Is this a spam call? My laptop is still under warranty. The phone number was 800-425-2067. Thank you.

Hi,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Dell will not make such calls to customers stating that system is infected by virus and this could be a global scam. You did the right thing by hanging up reporting this to us. Protection of your data is a top priority for Dell. Unfortunately, technology phone scams have become prevalent across our industry.

Please read the announcement at the top of the Customer Care Forum, "Scammers posing as Dell Technical Support", and follow the instructions there to report the issue.

Of course it's spam. Don't fall for them. Don't give them any information. I've read some people have reported them as scammer at http://www.whycall.me/800-425-2067.html just several hours ago. I prefer to just block the number and report it to http://ftc.gov/ if I were you.
