Storage Restructuring

Hello All,

Recently we have noticed that we are saturated in terms of storage despite having 3 SANs due to ad-hoc usage.  Now we have finally decided to completely restructure storage with proper planning ...

We have decided to reconfigure TWO SANs and use THIRD SAN as temp storage. All the servers connected to both the SANs are in clustered mode, and all of them are part of production setup which means we are putting ourselves on the line while doing this activity.

I would really appreciate if you can share some thoughts on following points.

#  Best practice to reconfigure/reinitialize SANs from scratch

#  Do we have to reinitialize OR we can delete and recreate disk pools?

# Also I read somewhere that,  you get more performance if you limit 1 Virtual Disk per disk pool.  if so what could be implications of having more than 4-5 disk pools since we will need these many Virtual LUNs per SAN.

I would really appreciate if you guys can share any experience if done something like this before..

Out setup as follows:

Storage:

AX150i Dual Processor ( Qty:2, to be restructured)

AX100i Dual Processor (Qty:1, as temp storage for moving LUNs etc.)

Disk Pools: 2 pools each SAN

As always, thank you for your time and thoughts.

Regards,

Lai Bhari
