DDBoost with MSSQL 2012 - bad performance

Hi all,

I have a client that's looking at implementing ddboost for their MSSQL environment.

We're doing some evaluation and are not impressed at all about the performance we're getting with ddboost.

DD670 with DDOS 5.4.x, 2x10GbE LACP (Xor2)

Virtual MSSQL 2012

Latest ddboost plugin

We first did some normal backups:

Dumping a 50GB database to a datadomain smb share, total backup time is 3 minutes.

When we're doing a ddboost backup via the ddboost plugin (ddmssqlv.exe) we're seeing backup times at 6min 21 seconds.

I've verified that distributed segment processing is enabled on the datadomain.

The load of the datadomain is much, much lower during the ddboost backup but the customer want to achieve lower backup times.

We're also seeing some ddboost errors at DDP_LOOKUP

Attaching statistics, cleared before backup testing.

Anyone have any ideas of places to look?

Regards,

Martin

First of all

If you are using just DDBoost protocol, I would recommend to use ifgroups over LACP.

Having said that, you mention that the SQL is virtual. What kind of the network interfaces are you using (E1000, VMXNET2, VMXNET3)?

I think this one worths a service request with the EMC support, as several things can be actually checked here.
