Data Domain Size Discrepancy

My two Data Domain systems are not showing the same utilization.  The DR one has roughly half the usage as the primary one.  The CIF shares on the DD are being replicated and the backup jobs with networker are being cloned to the DR DD.

Shouldn't the data usage be the same?  Or is the dedup more efficient once data gets replicated to the DR DD?

Thanks

If you replicated 100%, utilization won't be the same - it will be less on target.  There has been one thread here where this has been explained by EMC folks.  Still, 50% difference is a bit too much and you should check if compression is the same on both boxes and also verify that 100% of data is replicated.

I have previously also encountered this.

As said above check the compression type is the same on both devices.

Also keep in mind that the destination will get the effect of double dedupe (one dedupe on the source then another one on the target device) hence less actual data stored.

The ingest rate on the source will also be higher which could cause some data blocks to be missed when checking the dedupe fingerprint which is not the case at the target site since replication usually receives data at a slower rate.
