Using RMAN 4.0 to backup a Linux clustered environment to data domain

Hi,

In our scenario we had Node A, Node B, Node C and Node D in a single cluster of oracle.

.In node B in the cluster had a database mounted on it, we ran the hostname command to create the lockbox (it did not copied the files auotmaticlly to other nodes). then we ran the data domain registration commands to have the data domain registered to the RMAN node. we performed a backup and it was successful.

  • So we are checking , if do we need to copy manually the lockbox files to the other nodes or do we need to run the hostnames on each node before so that each will have the lockbox created on each one of them?

  • Node C was part of the cluster and did not have any active database moment at that time when we were doing this testing . so we did successfully installed the RMAN 4.0 on this, then we tried to register the data domain which got failed as there was no configuration files for lockbox at the common location. Once we moved a  database to the node (cluster failover of existing database from another node)he configuration files were automatically created on this nodeSo the question  is do we really need to assign a dummy databases each time in future for similar kind of systems to perform the initial configurations?

Thanks,

Chandan
