I am trying to update the bios on my vostro 430, to try to fix the noise issue.
There is no windows on that machine, and the only update file available SYEO-202.exe is of course a windows one, which is not usable with wine.
The ubuntu solution documented on the net does not work, because (I guess) the firmware is not on the repository. If we look at http://linux.dell.com/repo/ the last update has been done in 2009, but the new bios has been released in 2010.
So is there a solution to get the hdr/rom file? From there it should be possible to manage a bios upgrade, but the rom is hidden somewhere in the depth of exe file, which I cannot access.
Repost this in the Linux section of the forum. Maybe someone there will have a solution. Click Me
