Broken Direct Show Filter

I attempted to install K-Lite Codecs primarily for the AC3 audio codec and was alerted to a broken Direct Show filter.  I clicked Yes for K-Lite to repair it                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      but nothing happened.  I clicked and nothing happened.  My computer had frozen.  I tried the installation 3 times and my computer froze each time.

How do I fix a broken Direct Show filter?  Thank you.
