CPU Fan Alert on Dimension 2300
The fan on my Dimension 2300 is working just fine and yet I get an error everytime the computer reboots saying that the bios does not detect the CPU fan and that I need to hit F1. This does not work for what I need the computer to do. How do I fix this problem?

Hello freak87, Can you get the system to boot to the Desktop? If so, I would try to update the BIOS on this system?
You mentioned that the fan is working. How are you able to determine this?
The fan may be slow to start when booting, giving th BIOS the CPU Fan Alert, and then picks up speed.
Since these fans are fairly cheap, I would replace it, if you are unable to update the BIOS to see if this is causing the issue.
I have had to replace CPU fans occasionally, for this very reason, even though they appeared to be working.
Hope this helps.

Hello freak87, Does this system use the rear fan that blows into a shroud that forces the air across the heatsink?
If this is how it is configured, I have had to replace several of these fans for this very reason.
I looked at your system on the Dell site and could not locate a fan on the heatsink, so that is why I am asking.
The CPU fan will have a 3 pin connector on the motherboard, so I would check this connector to insure it is fully seated.
One of the wires is the RPM sensor for the motherboard.
Just a thought.

It does use a rear fan that blows into a shroud that forces air accross the heat sink. So you know where to get the replacement fans? I have already made sure the connector was all the way down and connected and have tried replacing the fan with another broken dimension 2300 i had.

When I turn the computer on the fan comes on and I have already tried updating the BIOS with no luck.

Hello freak87, I did a little searching and I found the same information that you gave about the shroud.
Someone mentioned that you could get one from Dell, but I wouldn't count on that.
I have replaced several of these on other brands and got mine from NewEgg for less than $10.00, but you need to know the rpm and current draw of the original fan.
I would call Dell first and see if they had one.
Hope this helps.
