CPU SPEEDS

I have a DELL Vostro with a Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 3.16GHz. 6MB, 1333MHz SLB9K. I am looking at a Dell Optiplex with a Intel Core 2 Quad 2.66 GHz.. Is the 2 quad really much faster than I have now? I burn movies and am looking for an affordable faster unit.   Is the Core 2 Quad going to be notably faster?  I understand one has 2 core the other 4 but does it mean twice as fast?

Maybe not 2X as fast but the quad should have an L3 cache which will certainly speed things up.

According to the intel SPECs the core 2 Duo only has an L2 cache to work with.

When you say you burn movies, does that include a lot of editing?

If so, a good graphics card would help also.
