Can I use DDR2 533 MHz (PC2 4200) RAM? This is for a Dell XPS400

The manuals list DDR2 400MHz (PC2-3200), DDR2 533 MHz (PC2-4300) and 667 MHz (PC2-5300) Memory

One last dumb question, will Value RAM work (Kingston) or do I have to use the Branded RAM?
Thanks

most members on the dell forum will tell you to use crucial brand memory since it is pretty much guaranteed to work.    Or the other option of course,  is dell memory, which is expensive, but it WILL work.

You can check reviews on newegg.com of different ram brands which are the same speed as yours and see if they mention using a dell.

good luck.

I have put into Dell PCs with LGA 775 Socket, (Pent.4 and Pent. D CPUs) PC2 3200,4200,4300,5300 and 5400 ram and all has worked fine.

You just couldn't use PC2 3200 with a Core2Duo, it isn't fast enough for the 266MHz FSB speed.

     Hi ,
I purchased the RAM sticks from Crucial at a cost of $140.00- 2 x $70 ! I have installed RAM sticks B/4 so that part was a piece of cake ,it was reconized soon as I booted up. It lowered my RAM load from aprx 70% to 30% ! Odd thing was when I ordered the RAM it said I needed PC5300 ,however I looked at the manual on my system and it said eitther would work PC4200 or PC5300, it already had PC4200  DDR2 from Dell installed originially 1 Gig ,the additionial Gig is the best thing for a quick upgrade to improve the performance of your system !

you can run two different speed so ram but the system will run at the speed of the slower ram.
