Dell Inspiron 3847 upgrade options
Hello, I recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 3847. I'm quite happy with it, however I decided to look into some upgrades. I do know that this is a quick decision, but just wanted to see my options in the upgrade department for my computer.
The model number is
- I3847-2310BK (Purchased from Best Buy)
My options are first, just upgrade to a gtx 650 ti and cosair cx 600m power supply unit.
Second option is to replace 5 parts ie, cpu, motherboard, memory, gpu and psu(power supply unit) with non dell parts if possible.
My question is this, I want to know what upgrade options I have and what motherboard is in the I3847-2310BK Insprion? I assume the form factor supported in the case is either micro atx or standard atx. Just wanted to know which type between micro atx and atx is the motherboard or more specifically which size is supported by the case. I will post the components I put together below :)
Intel core i3-4130 3.4 ghz - $125 on Newegg
MSI B85-G41 PC Mate (ATX Form Factor) - $80 on Newegg
Gigabyte GA-H97M-D3H (Micro ATX Form Factor) - $90 on Newegg
Cosair XMS3 8GB (2X4GB) DDR3-1333 Memory -$90 on Newegg
EVGA Geforce GTX 650 Ti 1GB - $100 on Newegg
Cosair cx 600W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-modular psu - $90 on Newegg
So, this is the list. I did some research prior to making this list but just wanted to be sure which option would work best for me. Either upgrading with just a 650 Ti from Nvidia and Cosair 600W power supply unit or replacement of 5 parts with non dell components to fit into the case. I may be asking a lot here lol, but just needed and wanted to know of my upgrade options. I've already have a person who is willing to do the upgrade, just need more information before setting an appointment with the person. :)

If you replace the motherboard then you need to purchase Microsoft Windows as the license is OEM and the key is tied into the system BIOS.
You are saying you are happy with the system so what exactly are you looking to achieve by upgrading? I would recommend you install Windows 8.1 on a Solid State Drive which would improve the performance of the system substantially.

You should be aware that this model is a basic budget system and is not suitable for drastic upgrades that you want to do. The upgrades could cost more than the cost of the computer and you would still have a budget model. That's like putting a cadillac engine in a kia. You should have purchased a better upgradable model like the XPS 8700. If you are happy with it now, save your money and use it as is--especially since you have to pay someone to do the upgrades!
PS Make sure to register your new computer with Dell since you bought it at best buy.

I have the Dell 3847 puter and like it too. Got it for $350 a year ago from office max.
since its an economy model, i only upgraded what needed it the most; the video card and the ram.
i added 4 Gb of ram for $50 giving me 8Gb total and a Sapphire Radeon R7 250 vid card for $90 so i could enjoy online 3D worlds like Second Life. works well. Makes my final cost $490.
the 300 watt power supply works fine, it only gets slightly warm with the powerful vidcard which said it had to have 500 watts, preferably 600! that's b/s.
Running Win7 Professional version and it feels solid and secure. Lots of backward compatibility with apps made way back when. Dell support seems excellent.
