Dell OptiPlex 9010 SFF not recognising SSD in BIOS

Hey everyone,

I recently purchased two second hand Dell OptiPlex 9010 SFF PCs for my grandparents with the intention of upgrading the memory in them from 4GB to 8GB and swapping out the 250GB HDD with an Intel 535 Series 250GB SSD so they both had a fairly fast/cheap PC.

When they arrived I booted them both up and they worked fine so I added the extra memory and they still plotted along fine but when I swapped out the HDDs from SSDs. Neither of the computers recognised them in the BIOS for some reason which I think was really strange. Though if I plug the HDD back in it works fine. Has anyone came across a problem like this?

Here is a list of the things I have tried so far.

  • ·       Updating the BIOS to the latest version (A22)
  • ·       Reset CMOS (removing battery and RTC reset jumper switch)
  • ·       Using a different SATA Port
  • ·       Using a different SATA Cable
  • ·       Using a different SATA Power connector
  • ·        Verified the SSDs in another working PC.

Advanced Format Drives require AHCI and F6 Drivers.

http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/boards-and-kits/000005646.html

“512-byte Emulation (512e) Disk Compatibility Update” aka Advanced format was released for Windows 7 in 2011

The INTEL MSM is not INTEL RST

Windows 7 Requires INTEL RST 9.6

Intel RST replaces Intel Matrix Storage Manager.  HOWEVER you cannot update to your hearts content from 7 to 8 to 9 to 10 to 11 to 12 to 13 etc.  As the drivers and chipsets get newer the older ICH5 6 7 8 9 etc are dropped from support.

Thanks for your help with this I very much appreciate it. I tried what you mentioned and the system still is not detecting the SSD in the BIOS.

I was just thinking because this was a business computer could it be something in the Intel management engine causing this problem?

The Intel Management Engine Extensions version is 8.0.0.0072 and the Intel management Engine version is 8.1.65.1586. To me these versions seem out of date. is there anyway to update these?
