Dimension 3000 will not start after last electrical storm.

Unit was plugged into surge protector,  I was able to transfer hard drive data to another computer. nothing happens when power button depressed, green light lit up on motherboard near where power button plugs into motherboard- need to know how to determine what has died & can it be reasonably fixed?.

Is the power button LED, solid green, blinking green, solid amber, blinking amber, or off?

Check the sequence of the DIAGNOSTIC LIGHTS on the back panel of the case.

Power button is not blinking - just a single green light lit up on motherboard.

Surge protector can't protect from a direct hit. Remove the surge protector and plug the computer into a known good outlet to check the computer without the protector--which might have died. Remove all the cards--except the video and try to reboot. If it works, put back the cards one by one rebooting after each one. Maybe only one card (sound, modem, network etc) is fried and can be replaced. If it doesn't work at all, contact your homeowner's insurance agent. You might be covered. Word of warning--go around the house and check all your appliances. Lightning is unpredictable. The surge protector should be replaced after a lightning strike.

What is the colour?

Usually a lighting strike can damage, in this order, power supply, modem/NIC, motherboard, memory and maybe the processor.
