Dimension 5150 Desktop Mobo is dead.

Hi there

I am looking to replace the mobo on the model mentioned above. It's a Connolly E187242, i was wondering if I would have to buy the same board from Dell, or if i could buy a board with the same specs from another manufacturer?

i'm certain its a 775 LGA but i was wondering if there would be any logistical problems due to the layout of the mobo or anything else i should know.

thanks!

I have an E510 which is identical to the 5150.

Only another E510/5150 motherboard will fit.  It's a BTX configuration, not ATX and because of the Dell custom OEM motherboard  (physical size) and the Dell proprietary and undocumented front panel connector there are really no options other than another Dell E510/5150 motherboard.   I don't know if Dell still has any new motherboards for this model but the last I saw on one (over a year ago) was that a new board was several hundred dollars (US).  There are some internet vendors that sell refurbished motherboards and the last price I saw was around $125 (US).

There were several different part number boards used in these systems.  The last one used was part number 0HJ054 and the most desireable as the CPU in it can be upgraded without getting an "incompatible CPU" error message at boot up.
