GTX 1050ti for Inspiron 660

I got Inspiron 660 (standard tower, not the mini form factor version) with i5 - 3330, 8 GB RAM, and came with GT 620. I'm thinking of upgrading the GPU to GTX 1050ti mini 4GB GDDR5 from Zotac or EVGA.

I know the mini GTX 1050ti doesn't require extra power connector and it physically fits in the casing. However, does it work with the Dell BIOS? Currently the BIOS in my 660 is A08. Do I need to reconfigure anything in the BIOS to make it work.

Replies from those who have tested the Inspiron 660 with the 1000 series Nvidia cards would be very helpful.

Thank you.

The issue is physical fit and secure boot OFF with legacy CSM and option roms ON.  This is ONLY FOR MINI TOWER NOT 660S.

The 1050ti Mini can fit inside the Inspiron 660. Do I need to upgrade my A08 BIOS to make it work?

Secure boot OFF? That means I need to turn off the UEFI mode?

I'm running on Win 8.1

Thanks man. This will be my first GPU installation. So please bear with me regarding my ignorance.

So I just turn off secure boot but it will be still UEFI boot right? I don't want to loose the "fast startup" option, which I think only works with the UEFI boot mode.

Regarding the BIOS, I've read about compability issues when fitting the Nvidia 900 series GPU int the Dell XPS8700. I'm wondering if it also holds true for Inspiron 660 and GTX 1000 series cards.

I am not aware of any issues with BIOS.  UEFI = Secure boot has to be off because ELAM will prevent the card from working and prevent the driver from installing.   CSM is compatibility Service Mode.

Set Secure Boot to disabled

If there is an option, set CSM (or compatibility or legacy mode) to enabled.

Save the new settings

Power down the system

Install the NVIDIA Add-in card

The system should now boot

There are ZERO issues with the Model Kepler or Pascal there are PHYSICAL Size ISSUES.

You will not be able to use ANY newer cards without CSM ON LEGACY ON and UEFI SECURE BOOT OFF.

This is true for XPS 8300 8500 8700 8900 8910  geforce 1050 TI has been tested and works in all these models.

The size and power of the card however is a limiting factor in the 660.

NONE of the cards mentioned so far fit in the NON TOWER 660S.
