Inspiron 530 stuck in power save mode

I'm trying to hook up my old desktop so I can run some programs for my engineering classes.  When I first plugged it in the fan would start and stop a couple times then the light would turn amber.  I opened up the tower and everything was caked with dust. I cleared all the dust out completely and tried again. Now the fan is running and the tower light is blue, but the monitor light is still amber and says that it is in power save mode. I've checked the connection a couple times and even tried with a different monitor. I'm not sure where to go from here.

Hi Annunziata13

Thanks for writing to us.

As you mentioned that you have tried another monitor and still the same, so we have ruled out the monitor.

usually in these situations either the monitor is faulty or the graphics port is faulty. as the monitor has been ruled out , the only other component we can think of is motherboard.

You may need to clean the contacts on the video card and/or the mobo.
