Inspiron 660s, video card upgrade?

Hi all,

I have a Dell 660s (i5-3330s) that comes together with GT620 1GB DDR3 installed. Would a GT1030 2GB DDR5 LP card from Palit/Zotac fit and work with the 660s? The power consumption is also lower for the newer GT 1030 (30W) compared to the GT 620 (49W).

Thanks!

The size and wattage are fine. But the GPUBoss scores show little improvement. With our 220w PSU, finding a good video card upgrade may prove difficult.

@DELL-Chris M

The GPUBoss scores always looks weird when comparing different cards. But under the benchmark and performance section, there's a huge difference between the two cards. GT1030 also has a higher rating compared to HD7750, and has slightly lower performance compared with GTX750 Ti. GT1030 seems like one of the better cards out there in the market right now that can fit a SFF and perhaps at super low PSU of 220w?

Managed to install the Zotac GT1030 2GB DDR5. So far I've only tested on Cities Skylines.

With i5-3330s & GT620, I ran the game at 1366x768 on the lowest possible settings, with anisotropic filtering & anti-aliasing disabled. I get a fps of 12~19 based on a built city.

With a GT1030, I managed to run the game at 1920x1080 (full hd) on the highest(max) settings, with anisotropic filtering & anti-aliasing enabled. I get above 30 fps, unless you zoomed in towards the details then it drops to about 21 fps. If I ran the game with the settings I used for GT620, I get the max 60fps from the game itself.

I was comparing between Zotac/Palit/MSI variants of the GT1030, and I picked the Zotac variant as it has the shortest height of 16mm compared to e.g. Palit variant with a height of 20mm.

The major issue with all of these is that the SLOT is very narrow and LOW Profile. So not just any 1030 will work  the ZOTAC GT1030 2GB DDR5 ZT-P10300A-10L is low profile and requires bracket change and is 40W max.
