Power supply has failed. May have damaged other components.
I would look into getting a newer system with less proprietary power supply.
Dell precision 380 fits this. You can use it to test which parts aren't dead.
Memory Type: DDR2 PC2-5300, DDR2 (non-ECC)
Maximum Memory: 4GB
Slots: 4

Speedstep, any other ideas? I actually upgraded the CPU on this machine and installed new SATA drives, 4GB of memory and loaded Vista Ultimate. It performed great running Remote Desktop over a VPN to my office. The latency was very tolerable. it was really performing just fine for the application. I would really like to find the issue.

well, i bought a claimed-to-be "new" power supply (it was a suffix -D as was the original). it made no difference at all. wasted money. :(
