NVidia Geforce GTX 960 in XPS 8300
Hi, I'm looking to upgrade the Radeon HD 6450 graphics card in my XPS 8300 to a GTX 960 (specifically, the ASUS Strix edition) and I have a couple questions:
Will it fit in the case? (card dimensions: 21.52 x 12.12 x4.09 Centimeters)
Will it work with the motherboard? (card is pcie 3.0)
Will it work with the power supply? (460w psu, card "up to 150W additional 6 pin PCIe power required)
Sorry if I sound like a noob but this is my first time upgrading a rig.

The stock Dell answer is they have only tested a handful of older cards.
The reality is several have done it on an 8300. search this forum and you'll see what has worked.
As far as the PSU, yes the stock PSU will work with a GTX 960. It has a PCI power cable with two six pin connectors. If the specific card you choose has an 8 pin connector, most cards come with an 8 pin to six pin adapter.
I'm not 100% on the 8300 PSU having two six pin PCI connector. Best to open up the case and look. I was thinking of the 8500 a family member has when I was writing this.
But, depending on how old your system is, and how long it runs per day it might be time to consider a new PSU. If so, again search the forums for what everyone is putting in their 8300 or 8700 or 8900. They are the same case and best I can tell essentially the same PSU.
Another benefit of upgrading the PSU will be slightly more efficient, and quieter.
I upgraded to Seasonic X-650s in both of my 8700s, and have the OEM in a box as spares for family members.
So, while I'm spending your money, you might consider a GTX 970. Prices are dropping because the next generation cards are almost here. If you are gaming, you may want to consider a little more horsepower under the GPU hood.

Thanks so much! Now that you mention it, I might decide to go with the 970. I didn't want to spend the extra money but I false didn't realize the prices would be going down with the release of te 1080/Polaris... Anyway thanks for the help!!

the GTX 970 will require a PSU upgrade so factor that in. A GTX 960 may not need one.
The gaming difference between a 960 and a 970 is appreciably better with a 970.
All this is assuming 1080p resolution. Lower res a 960 will be fine. Higher res, even a 970 is not enough.
