Need graphics card for Dell Optiplex 755 SFF
Hi,
I need to upgrade the video card in a Dell Optiplex 755 SFF desktop. It has a low-profile PCI-E slot, and the power supply is only 275W.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Would the ATI Radeon HD 4650 512MB Low Profile work you think?
Basically, here's the requirements:
- PCI Express
- small form factor / low profile
- 512 MB or more RAM is preferred, although 256 would work if necessary
- 2 output ports (VGA, DVI, HDMI, does not matter which)
- needs to work with the 275W power supply
We have 8 of these systems that need a dual monitor graphics card, and I'm wondering what the best option is.

Thanks Bev.
Does anyone know of any other cards that would also work?

The ATI Radeon HD 4650 512MB Low Profile PCIe x16 graphics card should work fine with the 275w PSU.

I'm in the same situation of needing a graphics card for an OptiPlex 755 SFF. My primary need is to connect it to an HD TV with HDMI ports so I'd prefer a card with an HDMI port.
I know the slot in this PC is a PCIe X16. The thing I find confusing in selecting a card is the bus type version. In the manual, the specs say...
Bus type PCI 2.3
PCI Express 1.0A
Bus speed PCI: 133 MBs
PCI Express x16: 8 GB/s bidirectional speed
Is it possible to use a PCI Express 2.0 or 2.1 X16 card in this system? My guess is you can but it will only run at the 1.0A speed. Can anyone confirm that?
Thanks.

An HD 6670 will likely work with your 275 watt PSU. Whatever card you choose, it needs to sip no more than 75 watts of power - the amount of power delivered by the PCI-E lane.If the graphics card needs more than 75 watts, the graphics card will require an additional power connector. Unfortunately, Dell PSUs don't have this additional power connector. The HD 6670 slides in at 66 watts.
On the nVidia side, a GT 440 will work with your 275 watt PSU.
Before choosing any card, make sure to measure the amount of space inside your system. Graphics cards can be rather large and sometimes don't fit in OEM systems.

That would be questionable with a 275-watt power supply.
It might work, though.

If it could that would be the best card for O755SFF. I was reading some test about this card and it says that this one is less power consum. that 6570 ~10W :www.silentpcreview.com/article1196-page6.html. I also worry about weight/thickness of this card, it's weight is 23mm and there is so small space between graphic card and plastic-holder of HardDrive.
On this site: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102958 you can see that isn't wider that the metal brecket. Maybe it could fit...

I have an identical Dell. I needed to have an HDMI port for hooking to a HD TV. I wanted to have a fanless card but I found, after buying one, that space was very restricted and I had to return an otherwise very good card.
I wound up using a GeForce GT 430 card with 1 GB DDR, which has a fan but fits the space allowed. It comes with a low profile bracket that eliminates the VGA port. The noise from the fan is very low, the power supply fan makes more noise.
Works fine for watching videos and streaming HD. Not a gamer so I can't speak to that.

The above is not a low profile card and will not fit into the Optiplex 755 SFF chassis.

This card is low profile, but you need to check the space that's available in the SFF case, the card's dimensions are 178 x 73 x 33 mm.

Thanks guys for your help.
bhartung:
I would be pleased with a gt 430 too. And you say it fits?
WHat is the brand of your card?
Do you use the original PSU (275W) ?
conquestMNE:
How much space is there?
conquestMNE, shesagordie, bhartung:
What is the best NVIDIA graphic card that fits to the case?
Thank you.
