Nothing in BIOS that mentions installing optane memory module

From what I gather the bios needs to mention optane, otherwise this computer has all the requirements.

I kinda' figured that, but I didn't think anything could make a change to the bios. FYI I did download the latest firmware for it (there is a new urgent one in the Dell downloads site).

There's one M.2 slot in the system.  As long as you DO NOT have an M.2 PCIe drive installed, it should be open and available for use with an M.2 optane card.

If you DO have an M.2 PCIe/NVMe SSD, you cannot install the Optane card (it'd be useless anyway, as the Optane card is designed to cache/accelerate a standard SATA hard drive).

There is a M.2 slot with nothing in it and just the one spinning hdd but I read somewhere where the BIOS has to mention something about optane in it, but it doesn't.

It won't until you install the optane module.
