I AM NOT SURE IT GAVE ME A CHOICE OF SAVING THE CHANGES. THIS COMPUTER CAME WITH 2000 PROFESSIONAL, I UPGRADED TO WINDOWS ME, THEN TO XP. IT STARTED SHUTTING DOWN AND RESTARTING, OVER AND OVER WITH MESSAGES OF CROSS LINKING, I DELETED THE PARTITION, AND CAN'T GET ANY THING ON IT WHEN I GET A STARTUP WINDOW EXCEPT [ FILE NTFS.SYS CAUSED AN UNEXPECTED ERROR (4108) AT LINE 5091 IN D: XPSPRTM\BASE\BOOT\SETUP\SETUP.C
Press the key sequence CTRL+ALT+F8 during POST. This will invoke a Boot Order menu. From there choose to boot to the cdrom. Let me know if this helps or not.
NO. SO FAR NOTHING HAS WORKED. I FORMATED AND SET UP OS ON THE HDD USING A DELL DIMENSION 8100, SO I KNOW IT IS NOT THE HARD DRIVE THAT IS THE PROBLEM. WHEN IT BOOTS UP IT ASKS IF I WANT TO BOOT NORMALLY OR SAFE MODE, ETC., IT DOESN'T
MATTER WHAT I CHOOSE, IT STILL REBOOTS TO THE DELL LOGON SCREEN.
FULL VERSION WINDOWS XPSP2 2002 EDITION. JUST REDOWNLOADED, SAME THING. I DID DELL DIAGNOSTICS AGAIN IT SAY'S EVERYTHING PASSES, EVEN HARD DRIVE. BUT THE COMPUTER WAS DOING THIS BEFORE I TRIED TO REINSTALL HARD DRIVE. IT WAS GETTING CROSS LINKED MESSAGES, AND REBOOTING, THAT IS WHY I DECIDED TO REINSTALL THE HARD DRIVE.

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.
Did you save the changes in the bios when you changed the boot order?

Are you using a Windows XP upgrade cd or a full version of XP?
