Optiplex 9020m and m.2 SATA drive

All of the spec sheets I can find for the Optiplex 9020 USFF indicate that it can support an m.2 SATA drive. What non of them tell me is what the edge connector and length need to be, and whether or not a stand-off is required for the far end.  I have contacted tech support, who sent me to the factory parts line, but neither seemed to understand what I was looking for.  They kept directing me to the parts for adding a 2.5" SSD, not an m.2 SATA card.  Also, the Users manual download has been a dead-link from the US site for weeks.  Can anyone help?

Based on looking at the motherboard, I believe I can use a 42mm card with a "B" or "B&M" edge connector.  But, again, nothing to confirm this.

Thanks.

Greetings Tim,

Thanks for your question.

I found a few of the M.2 part numbers we've sold with the 9020M.

Dell supported part numbers:

331T3 128GB SSDR,3.65MM,S3,SMSNG, PM851

5612H SSDR, 256GB - SATA3, 2280, Liteon L9G

PF19K 128GB SSDR,3.65MM,S3,Toshiba,HG6

I parsed out Dell part number PF19K,  to a Toshiba HG6, 3.65MM, M2280 form factor - Toshiba part number THNSNJ128G8NU. This is an actual picture of it:

Specs from Toshiba:

I found one pic of a similar M.2 installed into a 9020M:

Also, I tested out the Owner's Manual download link and it's working ok from my side:

I hope this helps you out.

Tim,

Happy to work with you on this.

For the wireless card, you need a few parts:

2K2P9 - External antenna ( this is the black antenna that sticks outside of the system )

5R9N4 - Bracket to avoid antenna cable loose from M.2 Wifi card ( Dell database description )

YC3XX - Internal antenna cable ( Connects to the card and to the external antenna )

GPFNK - 7260AC, M.2 wireless card

Justin -

Thanks very much.  That is exactly the information I was looking for.

If I can follow up with another one - If I wanted to add wireless to this system, I noticed that it doesn't seem to have any type of antenna connector.  I'm assuming that would end up being a Dell specific part to be added.  Any idea what that part number might be, and how I might obtain it.

Again, thanks for the help on the SSD!

I might.  But USB dongles do sometimes go missing in public spots.  Internal cards, not so much.

Why fuss with all that? Why not go with a USB WiFi dongle instead?
