SD Card Reader Failure

My XPS 8900 fails to recognize my SD card reader. I receive this error message: "H:\ The directory name is invalid. The computer is four months old and I have had this problem off-and-on. Any thoughts? Thank you.

* Remove any inserted cards from the card reader
* Click Start- Shutdown- Restart- OK or Click Start- Turn Off Computer- Restart
* Press Windows Key + R
* Type devmgmt.msc
* Click OK
* Open all and tell me if the card reader is shown

Thank you for the response.

I see under "Device Drives", I see:

"Generic-SD/MMC USB Device."

I know the card is good and unlocked because my camera can take pictures with it.

Do you have any other SD cards to test? Did the XPS 8900 19-in-1 media card reader ever work? What operating system are you running?

I have tested other SD cards and no luck. My operating system is Win 10 with updates. I only use SD cards and microSDHC cards with Adapter. Yes, the XPS 8900 19-in-1 media card reader did work but stopped. I now receive this error message:  "H:\ The directory name is invalid.

What do you mean, "with Adapter". Why not insert the cards themselves into the card reader?

An adapter is used for microSDHC cards which fit into the SD slot. Wouldn't make much difference, since the card readers doesn't recognize SD cards or the microSDHC. Any further suggestions? My computer is still under warranty. Maybe ask for a new card reader?

Before Technical Support could authorize a replacement card reader, you will need to power off, open the case cover, reseat the card reader cable on the card reader and the motherboard. Then retest.

I will do that. However, do you think I could have a Win 10 software problem?
