I installed window7 64bit on Optiplex 755.  On device manager, the PCI serial port won't work, try to update driver, no driver. The sound audio driver, I download soundmax Integrated Digital HD from Dell R164900.exe. When installed, failed. Acess denied, even though I am login as administrator. Please help.

thanks

It sounds like you are missing the motherboard chipset drivers and device drivers.  Use the Vista 64 bit drivers as they are also Windows 7 compatible.

Although Win 7 will install many drivers (some will be non-Dell drivers and Dell drivers are needed) the install sequence is (1) Install Windows (2) Install Dell Desktop System Software (3) Install Motherboard Chipset Drivers - there are 4 listed for this model (4) Install Device Drivers including Video, Dell Sound, Ethernet, etc.

The chipset drivers MUST be installed before installing device drivers.

Thank you. after follow your suggestion by uninstalling audio, chipset, video drivers, and reinstall chipset driver then audio. the audio is working now, but the PCI driver still won't work, with some error message "window could not find driver software for your device".  BTW, where I can get the dell desktop system software? Thanks

I took the following from the Optiplex 760 (Windows 7 64 bit).

Dell Desktop Software* (Under System utilities), 3 Chipset Drivers**, Intel Video, ATI*** & nVidea***, 4 Conexant Modem Drivers, 2 Ethernet Network Drivers, 1 Audio Driver.

* I can't remember if it installed, I think it did.
** I took one additional one from the 755 page R205428.exe, not sure if it said I had a later version already installed or not.
*** Get direct from their perspective websites.

I wrote this out in more detail but it came up error and I lost all I wrote. Sorry. However this driver set works. The conexant drivers should be installed before the audio but the order isn't as critical in Windows 7. Installing them will likely fix your error.

Oops.. after installed the Intel_AMT-SOL--LMS_A02_R255438, there are no error on the device manager (nor audio and PCI serial port). However, when I restart the computer, the internet won't work. I have to "open network and sharing center", then "LAN" then "disabled:", and run trouble shooting and fix as administrator, window diagnostics fix the problem. However, when I restart again, .... the no internet .... I have to do disabled LAN, trouble shooting, before I can write this message. Please help
