Video card compatibility question

Hello there, I have a Dell XPS 410 desktop pc with Windows XP Media Center edition service pack 2, 32 bit, recently my video card(Nvidia 7300 LE)started giving me problems, graphics artifacts and spiking, I'm looking for a new video card and I was wondering if this one would work for my system:

http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-Express-Graphics-512-P3-1300-LR/dp/B004BQKQ8A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1327773047&sr=

If this card is compatible would it be able to run The Sims 3, and is it an upgrade/downgrade from my 7300 LE?

The 8400 GS will work.  It is an upgrade over your 7300 LE and should play Sims 3 fine.  However, don't expect miracles with other more demanding games.

This is a much more powerful card, yet only $35 after rebate: www.newegg.com/.../Product.aspx It also has an onboard high-definition HDMI audio device (for monitors with built-in speakers).

The 8400GS is a dated, low-end design that is less powerful than some modern integrated graphics.

The 8400 GS is a decent card. I have one in my "Core 2 Quad" powered by Asus system. It is a EVGA manufactured card. As in the other posts, you are not going to set records with it. There are 3 different cards, 1300, 1301,& 1302. Suggest you step to the 1GB of memory card. Update the drivers at Nvidia after you install the card with the supplied disc. A word of caution, do not activate automatic updates. Nvidia did this with mine and wrote to fast to the hard drive and smoked it. Now updates are done manually. Card was a bit of a problem after first installing it. The color yellow was very bright, almost blinding. Working with color and contrast controls tamed it down. If you can find a ATI 5450 PCIe X16 2.0 these work well also. It is not a heavy game card also.

Update. Forgot. A X16 2.1 card may not run in your computer. They are supposed to be backwards compatible but not always. I did find this out by experence. Your computer is just a bit older than mine. A 2.1 card will not run in mine. The suggestion above me is invalid.

This morning, we had a 5100 owner report excellent results with a 6450. (He was originally going to get an 8400GS.) The 5100 is circa-2005.

The 8400GS design is several years old, while the 6450 has been out for less than a year. Several years is a long time in PC technology.
