Vostro 230 upgrade to Radeon 5830 - which PSU???

Hey all,

I'm interested in adding this Radeon HD 5830 to my Dell Vostro 230.

Any idea if it should work?

Can someone help me pick a PSU?  I think it should be 350W to 400W... but which version? 2.2V?

Any suggestions from these options?

Thanks for any advice!

Most would not get the older HD 5830.  You will be smarter to get the better HD 6850 for the same money.  It offers better performance and uses less power.  It only takes one PCIe 6-pin connection versus the two needed for the HD 5830.

I would also upgrade to at least a 500 watt power supply.  Always get a good name brand unit.  Do not go cheap on the power supply.  HERE are two that are reasonable in price.

HERE are the HD 6850s.

Thanks!  I went ahead with your PSU suggestion and got the Seasonic.  But also decided on the HD 6870 which was just a bit more.

Those are two good choices.  I did not realize the HD 6870 was at that cost.  It will take two connections, but the Seasonic has two so you will be fine.   You do get a free game with this one HERE if you're interested for a little bit more.   I think Sapphire is ATI's number one selling brand.   Good luck!
