XPS 8300 Hard Drives - how many total?

how many hard drives can the xps8300 accomadate.? It looks like two from what I can gather which surprises me since my old xps435 can hold 3. From dell info site on 8300 it does not make it clear. Anyone installed two additional sata drives along with the main drive?

Installing 3 hard drives is absolutely possible in the Dell XPS 8300.  I just successfully did it.  I put the details with photos in another post here:  en.community.dell.com/.../20015274.aspx

You basically use the flexbay slot which is located just above the hard drive slot.  Even though the screw holes are not aligned with a hard drive in this slot, you don't need to screw it in because it's a very tight snug fit.  It takes firm pressure to move the hard drive so it will not be moving around.  Hope this helps someone...

thanks. I guess I always thought that as the model  numbers got larger their were more options. I hope they will update the XPS435 framework. It could take more RAM and 3 hard drivers  - more than 8300.

As far as I know, there are only 2 hard drive bays just like there was in the XPS 8100 system and the two systems are pretty much identical except for the new tech in the 8300.

The XPS 435T or 9000 system is just a different and larger case design than the smaller 8000 series.

I should be able to post back here later tonight or tomorrow.

I just cracked mine open.

There are 4 SATA connections on the mainboard.

I have 1 HDD and 1 BlueRay  player using 2 of them, so I can add 2 more.

It's been 9 months since this post.  Was anyone successful in adding more than 2 hard drives to their XPS 8300?

Jsuss, you mentioned that there are 4 SATA connections and you can use 2 of them.  Were you able to connect 2 more hard drives with those?

XPS 8300 comes with two hard drives and you added another one.

After you installed the other hard drive did you remove RAID or you kept using RAID with DELL two hard drive and the one you added with not RAID?

The reason I'm asking is because I have added another hard drive and I'm getting my second RAID hard drive fails, also Intel rapid  Storage doesn't run after I have added the hard drive

Do I need to remove RAID configuration?

Also I have read XPS8300 only support 1TB hard drive, the one I have added is 2 TB, that could be the problem I supposed
