XPS 8300, video card upgrade?
Hi ,
I'm looking to upgrade my daughters desktop with on board video to a separate add in video card. This is what I found out so far from Dell :
-
We only validated the following Dell OEM video cards on our XPS 8300 460w power supply -
KP8GM AMD Radeon HD5450
HWHRN AMD Radeon HD5670
GCJ42 AMD Radeon HD5770
2XTG4 AMD Radeon HD5870
HCVMH AMD Radeon HD6450
8F60V AMD Radeon HD6670
8PJF8 AMD Radeon HD6770
Y9XH7 AMD Radeon HD6870
4VDWW AMD Radeon HD6950
VH86X Nvidia G405
X78HM Nvidia GT420
WGP2G Nvidia GTX560She is not a gamer but would like better quality HD graphics like 1080. Her monitor is a Dell SE1987WFP Digital. So which video card would give her the best bang for the buck? And if her monitor don't support HD, that will come next.

Maybe the card requires UEFI, and doesn't support PCs that have Legacy BIOS?
I think the power should not be an issue if it's a high-quality power supply. Might be cutting it close, maybe.
I have no experience with the 1080, though, so take this with a grain of salt.

I just saw ur post because i am in the same situation, i also have the 8300 xps with the 460w psu..i also wanted to get the EVGA GTX 1060 SC 3Gg....since u have it how does it run on the 8300 xps?? Any issues??..a reply would help alot

Since this is related, see the following post with pics regarding this system at linustechtips.com/.../. It includes a new PSU, GTX 1060 6gb, and a CoolMaster cpu cooler (among other items)--MUCH cooler than the Intel stock fan.

Fofini, I too have a Dell XPS 8300 with the 0Y2MRG motherboard, with i5. Which model of the 1050ti do you have? And, which PSU do you have? My PSU is 460 watts. I noticed two extra, 6 pin power connectors. Finally, does your EVGA 1050ti have a VGA out connector, if not, which video out connector are you using? Thanks, Bob

Fofini, I installed a EVGA Geforce GTX 1050Ti SC into my Dell XPS 8300, i5, 16GB ram, 0Y2MRG mother board, Win 10, PC. No video out of DVI, or HDMI ports. The PC appears to be booting since I can hear the Windows greeting music. Any ideas from anyone? Thanks, Bob

UPDATE: The GTX 1050Ti SC is now working in my Dell XPS 8300. I simply "re-seated" the card in the slot, and it started working. Just hope it's not an intermittent issue. Will keep all posted. Bob

The problem with the R series cards is the UEFI bios. They don't support DOS VESA mode 103 and therefore wont post or F2 get into bios. Fairly sure this one will work fine. Sapphire is very unsupportive on this issue.

Hi, I am at the cross roads trying to decide if I should upgrade or buy new. The components you mentioned comes out to close to $500. Is there a reason why you decided to go to the DIY route as oppose to buying a whole new system for just a little more?
