XPS 8700, Geforce GTX 750, Dual monitor setup

I am new to this forum and hope someone can help me out.  I have an XPS 8700 (mid-2014) with a Nvidia Geforce GTX 750 2GB video card.  I plugged in a Dell U2311H monitor using DVI and an HP 27ES monitor using the DP port (my desktop has no HDMI output  ).  I have an error message on video display when I power on the desktop and cannot proceed - only option is to power off.  When I unplug either one of the cable I am fine.  Wonder this error is caused by the video output not supporting dual monitor.  Anyone has any ideas/suggestions on how to fix it?

Thanks

Both monitors should be connected directly to the Nvidia Geforce GTX 750. The Dell Geforce GTX 750 Ti has the following video out ports =
DVI-I 2560x1600/DVI-D 2560x1600/mHDMI 1920x1200

Geforce GTX 750 mHDMI out --> mHDMI to HDMI cable --> HP 27ES HDMI in
Geforce GTX 750 DVI out --> DVI to DVI cable --> U2311H DVI in
