XPS 8700 and GTX 1070/1080

Once the new Nvidia cards are released, if anyone has experience on their functionality with the Dell 8700, please post. Thank you.

think ill just wait for the 1060...its less expensive..and supposedly smaller

I would guess that GTX 960 prices will drop sharply as soon as the GTX 1060 is close to landing.

Depending on what you are doing, a GTX 960 is a great card for a system like an xps 8700

you might be the first to try a 1070 in an 8100.

I suggest searching, or starting a new thread. I'm guessing 8100 owners are more likely to see a thread with 8100 in the title vs 8700.

In case anyone was wondering, the Asus RoG STRIX 1070 juuuuust fits into the XPS 8700.  Runs phenomenally.  Also installed an EVGA SuperNova 750G2.  I'd be happy to share pics if anyone is interested.

Great news. I just ordered this card and wasnt sure if it will fit in my XPS 8700. Thanks for letting us know ! Ill report back if I have problem.

Please do!  Let me know if you have any questions.  It's a pretty straightforward install.  Just need patience when you're feeding the card into the case.  I ended up routing that ODD cable in between the two middle RAM sticks, and ran the HDD cable to the right of the RAM slots.  There isn't a lot of length to work with, but you can get it.

While you're digging into it, I'd recommend pulling out the cage that HDD1 sits in from the factory and moving your drive up to the slot below the optical drive bays.  Gives you a ton of room for the install.

@sonicwookiee

I already have an Asus 970 Strix and it fits without problem and I have 3 drives in my XPS 8700. If I cant make the 1070 fit Ill just get a bigger case I guess. The card should be here this morning so I will report back asap.

Ok, gotcha.  I had an MSI 970, and it fit about the same as the 1070.  You'll be (or already probably are at this point) fine with that 1070 fitting.

Just letting everyone know I have successfully installed an EVGA GTX 1080 Superclocked Videocard into a Dell XPS 8700 and stress tested and benchmarked it.

The only trouble I had was I needed longer SATA Cables and I had to plug in the power before I slid it in as the cage gets in the way a bit.

I have a 650w powersupply.

Other specs include:

32GB Ram

512GB M2 SSD

3TB Hard Drive

Core I7 CPU

Runs cool even at full load and cant hear the fans spin.

I got a 3D mark of about 15,000 in firestrike.

I'm hoping someone can answer this too, I put in an aftermarket 650 power suppy by evga, and want to know if a 1070 will work. I tried a 970 and that did not work.

the 970 should have worked.

did you update BIOS to A10 or higher?

@polygrafix  What about the 970 didn't work?  Did the computer not boot, or did the PSU not have the proper plugs to fit the 970?

GTX 970 and GTX 1070 GPUs in general should work in an XPS 8700.

Here is a list of some user XPS 8700 systems that use the GTX 970 (numbering some 47):

You may refer to each build for further details of each configuration tested.

The 970 *DEFINITELY* works. I have one running in my 8700. In order for it to work, you *MUST* upgrade your BIOS.

finally got my Asus Strix GTX 1070 and it is indeed a tight fit. I just unplugged all the HD/SDD/DVD cables and plugged the power in the GPU BEFORE sliding it inside since you cant do it once it is installed. It is a lot longer than my Strix 970.

Great card so far !
