XPS 9000 and XPS 8000 delivery delay issues
The previous thread that mentioned issues of the Studio XPS 9000 and XPS 8000 being delayed or having extensive build times was locked. After a months time I had ordered mine (9/26) and it was supposed to ship on (10/22), after two delays it finally shipped out and will be received today (10/28). If you have any issues or have found any solutions to help get your systems sooner please help others that have also been in this predicament. It would seem the main issue is due to the high demand of I5 and I7 processors and parts being backordered. If you call customer service after a delay often times they will upgrade you to one day shipping, even though it took them three days to actually get it out.

Can someone who has received received their system tell me when Dell communicates the delivery notice? Do they send an email just at midnight? Or do they email shipping notices throughout the day?
Just wondering if I should check my email/order status regularly or just once a day.
Thx.

I have been signed up for email delivery notices on this XPS 8000 10/22 but have not received any emails on delivery at all- including for the one scheduled for tomorrow. I just received an automated call from FedEx confirming delivery. Don't know what's wrong with Dell's email delivery system- or maybe it was just me.

I've not received any email notifications from Dell regarding anything. Ordered on the 3rd of Dec, EDD of 12/23 changed to 1/4...not one email or call to tell me of any changes. Ordered an XPS8000.

I noticed that the order status had changed to shipped, however I did not receive an email about it until the next day.

Just received my 3 packages not even two minutes ago. I think Dell is shaping up considering the delay emails I received.
To the others who had theirs updated- any news from Fedex?

My XPS 9000 was waiting for me at the office when I arrived this morning. Original EDD was 12/23, then it was moved up to 12/22 when the status changed to "Shipped," and it arrived a day earlier. I still don't understand why I have my machine and many of you who ordered long before I did are still getting delays. I hope things get straightened out for those who have been waiting through several delays for their machines.

Here is my story to add to others:
Ordered November 30 - EDD 17 December
Recieved delayed email on December 14 - delayed EDD now 13 January 2010
The following is my specs/information:
I also have currently a complaint to the BBB - here are the particulars in my complaint - Dell has to January 8th to answer:
I believe that Dell has displayed unethical business practices in failing to inform consumers of known manufacturing delays at time of purchase.
I ordered a Dell (Studio XPS 8000) on November 30, 2009. I was told that my Expected Delivery Date would be 12/17/2009. On 12/14, I was informed by email that my order was delayed, and that the EDD would now be 1/13/2009. I have recalled Dell several times in order to find out specifically what the delay is with several conflicting answers. The only remedy given to me is to cancel my order (well not really). The most honest answer I have received is "I don't know" yet with a rep unwilling or unable to press forward to find out "why". This is mitigated with the majority of Dell customer reps use English only as a second language.
While I was told primarily the delay had to do with the heavy volumes of the Christmas season, I have discovered that Dell has had problems with Studio XPS 8000 and 9000 lines for several months now (see this community board http://en.community.dell.com/blogs/direct2dell/archive/2009/12/17/dell-and-order-delays-before-the-holidays.aspx and this one at http://en.community.dell.com/forums/p/19301335/19587070.aspx#19587070). Dell has lacked the transparency of admitting delays in manufacturing for months. Customers have been told a build will be in two weeks, but are waiting often months for delivery. Dell has made cancellation onerous, placing 8000 and 9000 systems immediately "In Production" knowing full well that the system is remaining "in the queue" for long periods of time. This issue is not just a holiday issue - it is a corporate issue in which it seems that Dell is seeking corporate insulation rather than transparency.
Of course I have no great expectation that Dell will answer well - and so I will wait and see if Dell once again delays my order - if they do I will cancel, and also forward my complaint to the FTC.
As it is the Dell brand is right now on life support with me. I have purchased Dells for many years for my employer, and have recommended it to friends and acquaintances. As a former HP customer who was disgruntled, I looked forward to the day I could purchase a Dell - and now they have extremely dissapointed me. To purchase another system now would cost me about $200.00 or more, so I am in a quandry. I want to get a Dell - but am unwilling to wait 2 months while Dell gets it act together.

Yes, yes, and no - Speakers.
The monitor is ok...the colors are completely off compared to everything I've used.
Trying to get them to match.

I've been waiting on my XPS 9000 since 11/27. It is an exchange replacement for my defective Studio XPS 435MT. When Dell placed the order for the unit on 11/27, they told me that it would take 7-10 days to ship. I was already aware of this thread, so I expected it would probably take longer than that. The status in my account info has never showed an estimated delivery date. Today, as much as I didn't want to, I called Dell to see if I could get any information on the status of my unit. The rep agreed that it should have already shipped and apologized, then told me she would send a message to the "Concerns Dept." and that I should receive an update within 24 hours. Not five minutes later that order status on the website changed to showing Shipped. No tracking info yet, so I will sit back and wait with my fingers crossed.. :)

KUALA LUMPUR—Computer maker Dell Inc. plans to lay off 700 workers from its Malaysian plant in northern Penang state in a bid to cut costs.
The layoffs, which represent about 16% of its total work force of 4,500 in the country, will take place from January through June, Dell's senior manager for corporate communications, Jasmine Begum, said Wednesday.
Ms. Begum said the layoffs are necessary as the company relocates the production of its computer laptops for the U.S., Canada and Latin America markets from Penang to other cheaper production facilities.
The Malaysian plant will continue manufacturing laptop computers for the Asian-Pacific region, she said.
The reduction comes as Dell is undergoing a company-wide restructuring aimed at reducing costs and returning to growth. In the fiscal third quarter ended Oct. 31, Dell's profit fell 54% despite signs of a recovery in the technology sector and while rivals such as Hewlett-Packard Co. saw profit growth.
Since founder Michael Dell reclaimed the chief executive officer role in early 2007, he has closed factories, entered new markets and acquired tech-services company Perot Systems Inc. for $3.9 billion in November.
The company expects that its acquisition of Perot will allow an expansion of its health-care and government services products, company executives said Wednesday.
In the first year of integration, Chief Financial Officer Brian Gladden said, the combined company will mostly be focused on cross-selling Dell's hardware and Perot's services products.
Over the next few years, its health-care offerings will ramp sharply, Mr. Gladden said.
Dell has fallen behind its competitors in personal computers. It now ranks third behind Hewlett-Packard and Taiwan's Acer Inc.

Its really too bad Dell is falling apart, it was once a Great Co. with very good support. I think they have out grown their good service and hopefully Dell will somehow rebound to good service once again. Alot of people will remember this about Dell for a long time and thats got to hurt. My 8000 was ordered 1 month ago and still not here. In the meantime my hp laptop is getting alot of work.

looks like "Shipped" can show up any time of the day, invoices and waybills/tracking numbers follow on in a few hours.
keep the faith!

Order date: 11/12/2009 of an XPS Studio 9000
Original EDD: 12/02/2009
EDD Changes: 12/09/2009, 12/16/2009, 12/23/2009, 1/04/2010
I must admit I was a bit cynical that Dell wasn't working hard or making my sale and system build a high priority but sometime between 0230 and 0630 (ET) today they decided it was just too much and changed my EDD for the fourth time to 1/04/2010. I don't blame them that they didn't send me an email because they must have been very tired. The lack of a phone call was probably because they did not want to disturb my sleeping wife and kids. They may follow-up today or, yet, maybe the phantom person they talked to on 11/30 responded for me again.
Decision day!
