too many desktop icons slow computer?

Someone told me that having too many desktop icons can slow your computer,,, and I'll have to admit, I have way too many icons!

But it's a convenience thing.

Is this a fact?

                              Thanks!

Desktop icons, require minimal resources and may slow your computer down a little bit, but only while it's booting, once it's started your desktop icons should have no effect on performance.

Agreed the resources needed to load the icons is minimal, but as many people know, the amount of programs installed on the system can, and often does effect the performance of a system to noticable amounts. Especially when they're set to start on boot, I'd suggest what you likely already know, but here goes anyways, use the Microsoft System Configuration utility, (MSCONFIG) to limit which programs start when windows loads, I generally only6 have a few start on boot. but everyone is different.
