Dimension 8300 driver support - Windows XP (SP3)
Hello all,
First time poster here at the forums. I have frequently used the Dell Support page for drivers for Dell towers and laptops in the past. However, I cannot find ANY (for any O/S) drivers for the Dimension 8300 tower!
Am I missing something here? Has Dell stopped supporting some of the older models or something??
Here's the link: http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/Home/NoDriversFound
Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks ahead of time.

Do you know of any alternative/third-party driver download websites? I've been scouring the web for them to no avail, thus far.
Thanks for your timely reply.

You need to start ATA not AHCI. XP doesnt like AHCI.
The F6 drivers and Chipset Drivers are first.

The F6 Driver is

8300 uses INTEL 875 chipset
INF Update Utility - Primarily for Intel® 800 Series Chipsets
Did you just install the operating system? If you did not, then you do not need to install the Intel® Chipset Software Installation Utility.

Then 3COM and INTEL nic drivers.

As Chris said, this is only an ongoing problem with the support site ... the drivers will be back soon. I would recommend waiting until they are available rather than getting drivers from other sources. Using third-party sources runs the risk of using generic (and thus possibly incompatible or unstable) driver packages, outdated packages with unfixed bugs, or worse - "value-added" drivers (drivers that come with more than just a driver, like spyware, etc.).

More to the point, XP doesn't natively support AHCI/SATA, making the installation process more difficult because of the need to add drivers during the install (F6). Setting the BIOS to ATA/Compatibility is not required - it is just a workaround for loading the drivers.

I've edited several times.
Finding Drivers Piece by Piece is not automagic.

I do not believe the 8300 comes with integrated Video. So that would have to be figured out.
The F6, Chipset, Audio, and Network Drivers are there in the post now.

I realize how much work goes into finding drivers, as I do it all the time ... it's just that seeing a post that needs clarification, I'm not sure how long to wait for you to finish - or if you're coming back at all. I post it all at once - not that that method is better than yours ... you'll just have to excuse responses to unfinished revisions of your post :)

The occasion is a full reinstall onto a new hard drive.
I have the original R58201 on the Dell CD and downloaded the Intel® Chipset Device Software 9.0.0.1008 5/01/08.
Will using the latest Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility release for the 875p chipset, from the Intel website,
offer any improvement from the last release by Dell - 12/3/2003, A13, v.5.0.0.2012?
Does anyone know why v.5.0.0.2012 A13 now has a release date of 5/21/12?
