Upgrade Dimension 8400 to 3.8 gig Pentium 4
My dimension 8400 is close to 10 years old. It's Pentium 4 CPU is 3.4 gig. I don't know all the technical descriptions of chips, sockets, etc, but I have found info indicating my 8400 has an LGA 775 socket.
Some information suggests I could use a P4 670 CPU that runs at 3.8 gigs. It is supposed to fit an LGA 775 socket. Apparently the bios version is also an issue. Mine is upgraded to A09. What bios version is needed for the 3.8 gig P4, and would my mother board accept the necessary bios version, assuming I need something other than the A09 version.
I am very capable with hardware, but please minimize acronyms and give explanations in lay terms. Assuming the 670 3.8 gig chip physically fits my Dimension 8400, then is the bios version all I need to upgrade? What would be the exact description of the 670 P4 CPU?
Thanks for any insight,

W9857 Prescott P4 Kit, 660, 3.6G, 800FSB, 2MB, Socket-T is max CPU Validated. D8400 BIOS A09 8/14/2006 was the last bios made.
No Idea if it works with the 8400.
FC071 Prescott P4 Kit, 670, 3.8G, 800FSB, 2MB, Socket-T
Is compatable with
Dimension 5150C
Dimension 9100
Dimension 9150
Dimension XPS G4
Dimension XPS G5
OptiPlex GX620
Precision WorkStation 370 Desktop
Precision WorkStation 370 Mini-Tower
Precision WorkStation 380
XPS 200
XPS 400
XPS 600
But also requires Copper heatpipe "Performance" heatsink.
Getting a Precision 380 would or better would be a wiser choice.
They go all the way to windows 8.1 and Pentium D 900 series when they have the performance copper heatsink.

You can find the specifications and description of the Intel Pentium 4 Processor 670 Here:

Yes, this processor is compatible with the Dimension 8400 LGA 775 socket.
The BIOS version A09 is fine.
