Will this ATX motherboard fit my componments - look inside.
I'm transfering from a Dell optiplex 760 BTX? motherboard.
I've got a intel core duo e8400 3.0
500gb HDD
and 4GB ram with windows 7.
Will I be able to transfer the above to the ATX motherboard? thanks.
I'll buy now if so :D

See HERE for CPU list. Remember this is and ATX board and will not fit inot a BTX case. So you will also need a case. You will also need a Power supply and a new copy of windows. You cannot install the Dell windows on a non Dell motherboard.
As for you memory it must be DDR2 type memory.
If your current HD is a SATA drive it will work. But you will need to do a fresh install of windows do to the vast differences between the two motherboards.

Hi thank you for the reply.
Yeah I will be putting this motherboard into a ATX case with a ATX powersupply.
IF you click the link, you will see the motherboards specs, it's an ebay item.
If you go through the list of the items specs, can you confirm for me it will fit?
And what do you mean new windows? I have windows 7. Lol, probley a dumb comment from me there...But I can get what ever is needed.

the e800 is a 775 socket its on the list on the link i sent. If your putting this in a Dell case you will still need to modify the case maybe extensively. Dell cases and motherboards are very proprietary and you generally cannot just plop in a third party motherboard.

Adding to Davet50's excellent posts, as you are using both an ATX motherboard and case, you would need a standard ATX heatsink, the Dell Optiplex 760 Desktop's heatsink is a proprietary unit.
Both the 760 Deaktop and the Gigabyte 775 Intel GA-EP41-UD3L DDR2 PCI-E New ATX motherboard support DDR2 RAM, this should be compatible, but unfortunately you cannot be certain of this, until the RAM is installed on the Gigabyte motherboard.
As for Windows 7, is this is a Dell OEM copy, as Davet50 has already pointed out, it may not activate.
If it's a retail copy, then you probably would need to contact Microsoft to activate.
The 760 Desktop's SATA hard drive/s and the optical drive should be compatible.

To daves comment: I'm going to be putting the new ATX motherboard, into the new ATX case I've just brought. It came with a free 500W PSU also, got them both for 35.00.
My stepdad, is a technition, but he ain't here. Spoke to him on the phone and he said that he will swap the prosessors and said he'll do the heat sink. So i think that part is ok.
My windows 7 is...off a retail disc. My stepdad also gonna supply this and a activation code. So it ain't just for the dell.
I won't carry on, but everything you have both said as really helped.
And everything you have both pointed out - I've basically got it all ready. So it will be here sometimes next week tuesday/wednsday.
I will now buy my HD 4850 ATI CARD:D (I hope this fits!) PCI.
thank you both for the help over the past 1-2 days.
