XPS 8900 - Dual GPU - Is it possible?

I noticed that there are 2 PCIE slots on the motherboard of the XPS 8900. Would it be possible to run 2 GPU's by putting a second GPU in the slot? I know AMD has Bridgeless Crossfire but would that work? I was debating getting the R9 370 and then just adding another R9 370 down the road...

As for Power, I was going to upgrade to a 750w PSU as well when I added the second GPU.

Short answer: No

The second PCIe x16 slot is only wired as x4. So an x16 card will fit in that slot, but it won't get enough lanes for video, even assuming BIOS could recognize 2 video cards...

I think I did hear of another person who tried this with an x4 and was able to get 2 gpu's working, yet like you said they were not running optimally. Doesn't the alienware amplifier only run at 4 lanes as well though? Seeing as dual GPU setups are less effecient from the get go, if I could still get 50% more power it may be worth it... like you said though, it may be bios locked. :(

I'm not aware of anyone with 2 GPUs in the XPS 8900. And I don't know what can/can't be done with Alienware systems.

Perhaps if somebody has gotten that to work with the XPS 8900, they'll post here...

I have a one-month old Inspiron 13 7000 which has seen very little use. 192.168.l.l

It has 2 slots but they do not support SLI nor do they support Crossfire.

INTEL 100 series chipset.  The slots are not even. One supports 2x wide card and the other only supports single wide card.
