Dell PowerEdge m620 without MEZZ B and M4110

Hi.

I plan to get  a M1000e with Mezzanine A (A1 & A2) and Mezannie B (B1 & B2)

installed with Force 10 MXL Blade switch.

M1000e slots 1 - 8  are M620 blades with

Mezz A - Broadcom 57810-k Dual port 10Gb KR Blade Network Daughter Card

Mezz B - Broadcom 57810-k Dual port 10Gb KR CNA Mezz Card for M-Series Blades

I will have a M4110XS or M4110X installed on Fabric B.

Questions

1. I will be getting  a 9th server without any Mezz B card / HBA.

Would this be ok, despite I have a MXL Blade siwtch installed on B1 & B2 ?

2. What are the rules for the Dell M4110 when installing on M1000e ?

I understand the M1000e can support max of 2x M4110.

Does this mean can I have 12x M620 blades and 2x M4110 installed on a single M1000e?

3. Is it possible just to use a single pair of Force 10 MXL blade switch installed on A1 & A2 both for

SAN (EQL/Storage) and LAN (user / production)  Traffic?

I've seen the EQL configuration guide and it requires a dedicated pair of MXL switch to hand EQL / SAN traffic

4. Can M4110 replicate to rack EQL models or anoher M4110 ?

Thanks,

Paul

Hello Paul,

q1:  Not 100% sure but I believe w/o connectivity to Mezz B those servers won't be able to talk to the arrays directly.

q:2  Correct a single chassis can support two units,  each M4110M takes up two slots, so 12 + 2 EQL arrays.

q3  Mixing iSCSI and LAN traffic is not optimal.   Dedicated switches for each is much better.

q4: Yes.   Async Replication is between groups, regardless of model.   The only restriction is the firmware of the groups must be compatible, preferably, identical.   SYNChronous replication is within the same group.

Also the maximum number of PS4xxx series arrays in a group is two.

Hi.

Thanks for the reply.

The 9th server wont need to connect to the SAN array.

Will there be any errors or compatibility problems without a HBA installed on Mezz B ?

Thanks,

Paul
