Hello - I'm upgrading PS6500 from firmware 6.0.7 to 7.0.5. Is drive firmware included on the equalogic firmware ?
Thank you,

No downtime needed and no controller failover. The FW kit checks if there are Disks which needs a FW update or not. If disks exists it will be update one disk after nother. For a 24 disk member it tooks a minute or so.
I run a couple of FW 4 and FW 5 Kits in the last years and never got a problem there.

There is also now Java applet to on the EQL support site, to help you upgrade firmware, and checks to see if you need drive FW too. This tool will also transfer the kits to the members that need them.
It's called DSUM. Dell Storage Update Mgr.

This is why i prefer to use the FW Drive kit first.... but it doenst hurt if you upgrade PS/SANHQ first. On the FW drive kit webpage there is also a PDF linked. Just take a look.. its a 2min job.
- Transfer the *.tgz with FTP/SCP
- Login trough ssh directly to a member and tye in "update"within a low IOPS period of time.

No, its not included.
You have to apply it directly on the member (not the group) from command line.

Great! Updates for drive firmware are release periodically. So if you haven't yet installed SANHQ please do so. That's a great monitoring system for EQL storage.

The Drive Update kit handles all known drives that need upgrading. it's one of the reasons I really like the DSUM tool. You point it at the group it will let you know if an upgrade is needed.
