Equalogic PS4100's - Not generating SMTP Alerts

Hey guys,

We have two Equalogic SANs. Both PS4100s and I've noticed that neither are generating SMTP alerts anymore! Obvious risk when disks fail within an array etc!

They are running quite old firmware 5.2.4. I've attempted to generate test SMTP alerts by enabling "informational" alerting and then logging in and out of the SAN GUI - still no SMTP alerts and they are definitely not hitting our SMTP relay server. They just aren't being generated!

Any quick wins, suggestions or ideas are greatly welcome!

Kind regards.

Hello,

I have seen issues with old firmware and newer e-mail servers.  Did you verify that you can ping the e-mail server from the array?   If you are using the Dedicate Management feature, then make sure the e-mail server is available on the Management port subnet not the iSCSI subnet.

If you have SANHQ then you can configure SANHQ to send the alerts on H/W failures.

 Regards,

Don

Hey Donald,

Thank you for your response!

I got to the bottom of this in the end. The issue was due to a faulty load-balancer sat between the SAN and the SMTP relay server!

Thank you for your suggestions thought!
