Windows Server 2003 RAID upgrade

I was upgrading my server from a RAID 1 on my data drives to a RAID 5. I got new drives to do this, offlined my old drives and recreated a new RAID 5 with 3 drives and restored for backup. Come to find out that my backup was over a year old, not a good thing. I would like to put the old drives back into use but don't want to loose data, is that possible?

Dell PowerEdge 2800 Series
Dell Perc 4/DI controller
2 36GB OS Drives as a RAID 1
3 146GB DATA Drives as a RAID 5
Old drives
2 146GB DATA Drives as a RAID 1

Thanks for the help

Yes. Feature is called Drive Roaming. The RAID config data is on the old drives. When you insert them the controller will recognize the config and allow you to import it. Read each prompt carefully and whatever you do DON'T INITIALIZE the array.

Hope that helps - good luck !

You should be able to put just one of the two RAID 1 drives in when you try it. That way if you screw up, you will have two chances at getting your data back, When you import the raid, it will complain one drive is offline, but you can still get the data.
