ECN ALERT for EMC members: Important information on how ECN works with the EMC email change

Hi everyone,

If you are an EMC employee, please review this ECN alert. It explains how to configure your ECN account in light of EMC's email change.

Alert Summary

Since the implementation of EMC’s new email format, a small number of employees have encountered issues with ECN logins.  This email is to make you aware of how to avoid the issue as IT works to eliminate any problems in the future.

Who is affected?

EMC employees with ECN accounts that have never used Powerlink to access ECN.   To be very specific the problem ONLY occurs if:

  • You have ALREADY ESTABLISHED an ECN account (you registered for the ECN using the ECN registration process)
  • You have NOT UPDATED the ECN email in that ESTABLISHED account with the new 'firstname.lastname' format
  • You have NEVER logged into the ECN using Powerlink credentials
  • You attempt to use Powerlink for the FIRST TIME to access ECN

What happens?

Under these circumstances, Powerlink tries to find your existing account by matching the new EMC email format with the email stored in ECN.  When there is no match, Powerlink tries to create a new account. This 2nd account will NOT have your original authorizations and won't have your accumulated points.

What do you need to do?

  • Continue to use your established ECN access method (either ECN login or Powerlink). Don't change your access method.
  • However, if you have NOT used Powerlink in the past and WANT that capability in the future:
    • Log in to ECN using the ECN login process FIRST and update your email to match the new EMC format
    • If you HAVE an ECN account, attempt to use Powerlink and are prompted for a SCREEN NAME, Powerlink is attempting to create a new account.  DON'T let it.  Close the browser and change your ECN email to the new format first.

We expect that very few employee have experienced this issue.  If you feel that a 2nd account has been created please create an IT ticket.  IT will assist with the resolution.
