Audio FAR too loud on XPS 1730

First of all, these speakers are nice, love the quality. The issue here is that if I a leave program like iTunes on its default volume setting, turning up my volume one notch is too loud. I have to set everything I run to about half volume just so I don't wake up the whole house. Is there any way to set the max volume lower, or make the volume controls on the front of my laptop and remote increase the volume slower? I'd like to be able to get more specific with my volume, instead of having the choice between mute, OK, and LOUD.
