Dell Inspiron...DVD player problem..

Good day all...

The DVD player on my Dell Inspiron 6400 only plays DVD when it wants to.

Lately it's not reading the DVD when I put one in.

I seem to see a very small light reading optic on the tray the DVD sets on.

Do I need to clean it somehow or am I looking at deeper problems.
