Displayport doesn't work on E6510

I would like to connect our HDMI TV over the displayport. So the troubles began.

I have an E6510 with nVidia, installed with Windows 7 64 bit. I have already installed the newest version of all possible drivers and firmware. I have a Displayport to HDMI adapter, and HDMI cables. I turned on the extended and strong detection of older devices at startup.
BUT the symptom: No external device can be detected. (Fn + F8 or nVidia control panel)

I tried everything I can imagine:
1. Turned off TV and notebook and turned in again after connected.
2. Connected and disconnected in turned on state.
3. Tried 3 different HDMI cables.
4. Tried instead of the TV a projector with HDMI input also.
5. I called Dell support. They stopped at the first steps: Does have the E6510 a displayport? Does support displayport HDMI? Great job, DELL...

So my last step:

I ask now:
1. What steps should I follow to solve the problem?
2. Does even anybody a functioning displayport to HDMI connnection on E6510?

Thanks and 10 Euro with Paypal for a solution!

Hi!

Do you see your TV in the nvidia control?

I might have a similar problem with displayport to displayport connection on the E6510.I have an EIZO EV2313W connected to the E6510 over displayport cable. There is no picture on the display, BUT the eizo does not go into standby mode AND I can see the Eizo in the display settings of the nvidia control. Now comes the fun part: if I play a test sound over the displayport connection to the eizo display I have suddenly a picture. Or course this is not so funny if you have to do it every time you start your system, so I'm using the DVI connection atm.

But you have to be honest. Since I'm reading your post I haven't seen a functioning displayport on the E6510.

BTW: by newest drivers do you mean the ones from nvidia directly? The driver version from dell is 8.17.12.5922 , latest nvidia is 8.17.12.6099

Hi!

My problems begin earlier: The connected HDMI doesn't appear in the NVIDIA control panel.
I have the newest driver from NVIDIA. Dell service center had no better idea as to change my motherboard. The problem is the same...

Thanks for Your answer!

Any suggestions welcome!

E6510 Display port to HDMI Video & Audio

I have an e6510 i5 with NV3100M Graphics.

I purchased off ebay a diplayport to hdmi cable.

The following allowed both video & audio at 1600x900 res.

1/. Connect to TV or Data Projector, turn on TV or Projector and chose HDMI as source. Then turn on laptop. Windows should now discover the second monitor as being the device connected via hdmi to the display port.

If no picture appears right click desktop, choose Screen resolution option and see if the second screen is mentioned there; If so choose duplicate screen and set res to highest possible.

If not present click connect to projector option or Windows Key & P.

2/. If you have picture and no sound open Control Panel, make sure View by Large Icons is selected then proceed as follows.

Open Sound settings and see if the connected HDMI display appears as a playback device; if it is there then right click the icon and set it as the default playback device. You should here the audio coming from the connected HDMI display, if it has speakers.
