Inspiron 14: Shortcut keys for special characters

Hi,

I noticed that I was not able to do shortcut keys for special characters such as the "e" with the various accents applied to it (French) such as Alt + 0233, Alt + 0234, etc.

I was wondering if I have to change certain settings to enable the use of these shortcut keys, include another key (ie.Fn), or whether it is simply not possible to use the Dell Inspiron 1440 keyboard in such a manner.
