Inspiron 15z dell instant launch button not working

Hi,

I've using the laptop for about 2 weeks. I updated my drivers and installed some apps. Now i found out that the three buttons on the top right corners are not working - i think they are windows mobility center, waveaudio and dell instant launch buttons. They used to work when it came out of the box. I don't know what i did to make it not work. When i press the buttons, nothing shows up. I hope someone might be able to help me with this issue.

Thanks

Hi nl_eddie,

It seems that the ‘Dell Quickset’ driver is not installed on the computer. You may install it using the following steps:

  • Click on the link http://dell.to/QjjZDA
  • Type the service tag of the computer
  • Choose the operating system
  • Expand 'Application'
  • Look for Dell Quickset
  • Click on ‘Download File’
  • Check on the radio box ‘Single-file download’
  • Click on ‘Continue’
  • Choose the location as desktop,
  • Click on ‘Save’, save the file on the desktop
  • Double click on the file; choose ‘Continue’
  • Click 'OK' on ‘Select the folder’ where you want to unzip the files (make a note of the folder location)
  • Click ‘Yes’
  • Click ‘Ok’, follow the on screen instructions and install the file
  • Restart the computer

In case you do not get prompts on the screen for instructions, then

  • Browse to the folder where the files were unzipped and locate the setup file
  • Double click on the file; follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation

Hope this helps.

Quickset needs to load at startup with every boot. To check if Quickset is loading at startup click on the Start orb or press the Windows key. Type msconfig and click the file msconfig. On the window that opens up click the Startup tab and check for an entry there called Quickset.

If the entry is not there then it can be added to the registry.

Click the Start orb or press the Windows key and type regedit and click the file regedit. Navigate to this registry key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

In the right hand pane (in a blank part of screen) right click mouse/pad and choose New > String Value (press enter)

Right click on the newly created key again and click Modify. In the Value Data box copy and paste this text

C:\Program Files\Dell\QuickSet\QuickSet.exe

click ok

Right click on the key again and choose Rename and type Quickset

click ok

Exit out of registry and reboot your laptop

Post back with your results.

Hello, im having the same issue with my 15z 5523.  I downloaded and installed the quickset driver but every time i shut down and restart the laptop the instant launch buttons stop working again.  Ive repeated the process a few times, modified and repaired on installation, still no difference.

Any ideas?
