Internal architecture compatability
I am considering buying one of the new Adamo models and would like to give my current XPS laptop to my brother. However, he is in the U.K.
So my question is, would a U.K power adapter work with the XPS laptop, or is there more to it then that?

The power bricks used for laptops are generally 'customized' to those laptops. The adamo is supposed to be power efficient so it would output less power then needed by the XPS. Your best bet is to have him (or yourself) purchase a US to UK adaptor, or see if dell sells the power brick for the XPS UK version (which they should).
