Hi AFire246,

To prevent this from happening follow the below steps:

  1. Click Start button, click Control Panel, click System and Security, and then click Power Options.
  2. On the Select a power plan page, click Change plan settings for the plan that you want to change.
  3. On the Change settings for the plan page, click Change advanced power settings.
  4. On the Advance settings tab, expand Sleep, expand Allow Hybrid Sleep, and choose OFF.
  5. On the Advanced settings tab, expand Sleep, expand Allow wake timers, choose Disable for both when your computer is running on battery and when it's plugged in, and then click OK.
  6. On the Advanced settings tab, expand USB settings, under USB settings expand USB selective suspend settings, choose Disable.
  7. Click Apply and then OK to save the changes.

Check if the above steps work and reply.

Thank you so much for your reply... I noticed the sleep button works, and will but it to sleep however the power button does not seem to work to hibernate the computer, nor does the power lid close function.. Im not sure why this would do this all of a sudden..

Hi AFire246,

If the steps do not help, let’s try to uninstall and reinstall the video card drivers.

Please follow the below mentioned steps to uninstall the video card drivers:

  1. Click “Start”.
  2. Click “Control Panel” and select “Device Manager”.
  3. On the “Device Manager” window, expand “Display adapters”.
  4. Right click “Intel(R) HD Graphics” and click “Uninstall”.
  5. Ensure to check the box “Delete driver software for this device”.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions to uninstall the drivers.
  7. Restart the computer.

After the system restarts please run Windows updates.

  1. Steps to run “Windows updates”:
  2. Push the “Windows” key to open “Start” menu.
  3. Type “Windows Updates” in the search box and select it.
  4. Run the Windows Updates.
  5. Check and install the Intel graphics card drivers displayed by Windows updates and restart the system.

Check and post the results.

Thank you again for your reply!  I tried uninstalling and re-installing the graphics card, and unfortunately it did not solve the problem either... The computer sleep button still works, and functions fine. But it will not self hibernate over time or if I command it to, and if I leave my computer unattended for a period of time eventually it will just shut off (hard shut off) I assume because the hard drive eventually shuts off without going through hibernation. I have NO idea why it would all of a sudden do this. It would hibernate, sleep, hybrid sleep, etc without any problems, days ago... :/ I feel like I may just need to adjust the settings to sleep for extended period of times, and I will have to manually shut down when I am fully done with the computer. Is there anything else you may suggest? Thank you for all your help thus far!!!

Hi AFire246,

It could be a problem with the User Account, I suggest you to create a New User Account and put the computer to Hibernate and check if that works.

Please follow the below mentioned steps to create a new user account:

  1. Click “Start”, type “User Accounts” and press enter.
  2. Click “Manage another account”.
  3. Click “Create a new account”.
  4. Type the name you want to give to the new user account, click administrator account type, and then click “Create Account”.
  5. Restart the computer and login into the new user account and Hibernate the system.

If the system is not Hibernating or waking up from Hibernation then system needs to be restored to factory settings, in this process you might lose the data saved in the computer.

Please let me know the findings.

Open an elevated command prompt and type in powercfg -requests

This may help to identify what programs are preventing sleep. Post back with results

Thank you for all your efforts.. Unfortunately this did not solve the problem either.. I will just have to change the settings of my computer to never sleep nor hibernate and turn on and off via normal shutdown, and reboot., my computer is out of warranty and cannot afford the repair for that through Dell. Thanks again!

After the last possible solution did not work, I set my computer to never sleep nor hibernate..

When I perform your suggested task...   it says DISPLAY: None    SYSTEM: None    AWAYMODE: None

I set my power settings back to the computers default settings under the recommended (Balanced)... I restarted my computer, and then I attempted to sleep, and it would not hibernate... I performed the elevated command prompt upon the hard reboot since the hibernate would not work and the results of the command prompt were the same  DISPLAY: None    SYSTEM: None    AWAYMODE: None

Set the computer back to your old settings, try to put the laptop in Hibernation or Sleep again and then re-type the command

okay doesn't look like any programs are preventing sleep. You can turn off hibernation and sleep again if you wish, however if it's a feature you really want then you can always do a factory restore as a last resort.

I did that and restarted my computer... my powercfg -request still shows NONEx3
