Quickset button - Missing function

Hello, dear readers... I hope someone can help me with that little problem.

I recently got my new laptop (Inspiron 17R SE - 7720) and I decided to reinstall the whole OS, because it worked relatively slowly and  looked a little overcrowded, anyway. There were some more reasons, but that's not the point.

All drivers have been downloaded and installed. I also updated the BIOS to the latest version. And unfortunately i discoverd very little issue with Quickset.

The laptop has 3 special buttons in the top right corner. The left one, which actually lauches the mobility center / Quickset, doesn't work anymore.

I tried several versions of Quickset and even reinstalling Windows didn't solve the problem.

After hours of investigation I wasn't able to find anything, which fixed it. Maybe, there is a way by editing the registry.

I know my request so unnecessary but it's simply annoying me.

Best regards,

Miguel

Hi All,

I have sent you all an email with a new Quickset Driver. This driver is not available on the support page as yet. Try installing it and let me know how it goes.

Thank you.

Thank you for your fast answer.

I wish you great success in finding the issue.

One short question: Does my laptop need a webcam driver or software to work properly? If yes, where can I download it? I can't find a driver that fits my system.

Best regards

Miguel

Hi Miguel,

The webcam software is Dell Webcam Central. You can download this from My Dell Downloads. This has all the software that came installed on your computer.

Thank you.

If you search on the forums you will see that all users with the latest BIOS are having problems with the Quickset button primarily the one which starts Windows Mobility Centre, apparently it seems to be a BIOS or driver issue which Dell are working on.

Not sure but this may be revelant or not...

Hit the Windows key and the X keys at the same time.

Where you see the Function Key Row, change it to Multimedia key.

Then close Windows Mobility Center.

Now try the buttons at the top.

Hi Rick,

This does not fix the problem with this button not working but it does at least let you open the Mobility Centre.

Hi Rick,

As others have said, the latest BIOS might have disabled the settings/Quickset button (furthest left button) because mines doesn't work.  The Win button + X button workaround works but it is still annoying that the quickset button does not work.  This needs to be fixed in a future update.  Please raise this issue to a high level.

At least it is not just me that is having the email issue. The problem is not really bothering me as you can access the mobility centre by the Windows key and X but it would be nice to test the driver out to see if it has fixed the problem.

Other than this I am over the moon with the laptop, I find it a great machine.

I will echo the above, I unfortunately can't receive the test updated driver for some strange reason, so just hope it is made available to everyone ASAP.

I am loving the news that the new Quickset driver works.  I would still like to try out the new driver myself.

Royan:  I assume that if the subset of us that try out the new Quickset driver and it works that it will be uploaded to the Drivers page for the Inspiron 17R SE under Applications?

@Coliln58

I am in the same situation as you. For some reason I wasn't able to receive the driver from Royan and I have a Gmail account.   I have talked to Royan and he is in the process of trying to upload it onto a FTP so that we can grab it from there to try it out for ourselves.
